Airplane Help!!

In just eight days we will make our epic journey across the country.  I couldn't be more excited but I'm also starting to panic.  Because we like to keep things exciting around here we're taking a red eye with stops in Denver and Newark, N.J.  I think my baby is pretty much perfect and even when she is crying she's just so adorable that I can't be upset at all, but I can't be assured that every other passenger on our planes will feel the same way, especially if she chooses 2am to start screaming.

So, I need your travel tips/advice/suggestions/magic spells to get us to Virginia without making any mortal enemies.

I know, I know- how could this girl ever have any enemies, right?!?!

I think that's the worst part of being a parent - you totally are not at all bothered by their behavior, but some dim pre-child version of yourself remembers that this might have been annoying when it's not your child. But it IS your child! and who could be annoyed by that angel baby?

I was always surprised how easy Calvin was on a plane, so I wouldn't worry too much.
I think the biggest problem we had was being on an airplane without a changing station. Brandon ended up changing him on his lap and it was quite the challenge.

Make sure she is sucking on something during landing and take-off. It helps the pressure in her ears balance so she is less likely to scream. I also recommend letting her have her own seat if you get the opportunity (Southwest let us do it for free since our plane wasn't filled). Gives you some privacy since you will have a whole row to your family and you won't have to hold her the whole trip :) Also as far as keeping you sane during travel, I recommend having as few carry-ons as possible. A baby is essentially a carry-on and requires more equipment than you would ever imagine possible. Add in a few more bags and subtract some hands and you have a high stress situation. Good luck!

Oh also! The bathroom at the front of the plane should have a changing table. All the planes we went on had one. Makes life 1,000,000 times easier :)

I don't know what airline you are flying, but if you are flying southwest I always try to sit toward the back, then people get to choose to sit by a baby instead of being forced to sit by a baby. She will probably sleep the whole time. I think babies are easier than crazy toddlers! Good luck and have so much fun at home. I bet your sisters are SOOOO excited!

We flew when Ethan was 6 weeks old and the sound put him right to sleep! On the way back he started fussing, and I was completely stressing out. When we landed, the person across the isle turned to me and said, "You have a baby?? I didn't hear a peep from him the whole time!" So my advice is try not to stress! When they're tiny, they aren't NEARLY as loud as you think they are. Plus, I'd rather hear a tiny newborn cry than a toddler screaming any day :)
You could always hand out ear plugs as a joke :)

I just traveled with my 7 week old. I carried her in the front carrier and it was a dream- my arms weren't crazy tired from holding her for 6 hours. If she gets fussy- nurse her :)

fyi if you take her in a stroller you have to fold your stroller up and put it through the scanner at security, so just be prepared for that.
