five fact friday

one- Jilly had a rough week last week.  On Saturday she was sitting on the kitchen counter and fell off backwards.  She hit her head really hard and cried and cried and cried.  I laid her on her couch and kept asking her questions and she could always answer.  She also told me, "I fell just like Rapunzel's mean mom fell out of the tower" so I knew she was in pretty good shape.  She eventually fell asleep but when she woke up she threw up.  I was really worried so I called the pediatrician who said there was no need to worry unless she threw up again or seemed to not be herself. The rest of the day she was perfectly fine.  Then, on Monday we had friends over to go swimming and while we were eating dinner Jilly and her friend were playing by the pool.  I never ever ever should have let Jilly be that close to the water without her life jacket, but I did, and somehow she fell in the 5 ft deep water.  I ran over (we were only a few feet away) and was able to quickly grab her out of the water.  She was shaken up but fine (had no problem getting in the pool later) but it was scary scary scary.  So apart from feeling like the loserest mother there ever was, I've been ultra-vigilent lately- to the point of waking up in the night to check on my girls.  We're lucky everything turned out just fine.

two- Mattie is at that fun stage where she knows exactly what she wants to say but mamama and dadada just aren't cutting it.  Our days are filled with lots of whining and grunting as the poor girl tries to figure out how to communicate.

three- We have a place to live in Maryland!  We're renting a little townhome and it's been quite stressful to choose a place without actually seeing it, but we're excited and happy to know we have a new home.

four- Lisa and her crew came to visit one last time while we're residents of the same state.  We had such a fun day with these guys- the kids play so well together.  And thank goodness for texting and facetime that will make my separation from Lisa just barely bearable.

five- We spent last weekend at the beach with Bryan's family, then had Lisa visit, my sister-in-law and kids visit for a couple days (more on that later), then inspection and appraisal on our house.  Most of this week I've felt like I was hanging on for dear life as the days whizzed by.  One day things will slow down again, but probably not for a little while!

friday five

Mission Accomplished-  We took away (she gave up?) Jilly's pacifier this week.  It hasn't been as terrible awful as it could be, but at night she especially misses it.  Sleep has felt like a long lost besty-best friend.  And, her saddest quote of the week- "Being a big girl is hard."  But, she did get her Aurora dress and boy oh boy she loves it.

Baby Miles-  The girls and I headed down to San Jose for the day to meet Sweet Baby Miles.  We all love him so much, and had a great day hanging out with his mom and big brother too.

Swinger- We put Mattie in the swing for the first time this week and she seemed to be a big fan.

Divergent- I've finally gotten out of my reading slump!  I had heard lots of good things about Divergent by Veronica Roth but was hesitant to start another dystopian trilogy.  But I got it to listen to on my drive and loved it so, so much.  It's kind of a mix between Hunger Games and Matched, and it definitely has the best love story of the three.  I miss listening to it (the narrator is excellent) and am dying that I have to wait on the hold list for the next book.

Fall- I realize I'm the first person ever to say this, but I am totally in love with fall.  The weather is perfect, the leaves are beautiful, and there are so many fun things to do.  I kind of don't want this month to ever end.

friday five

one- On Sunday I was so, so excited about the girls' matching dresses and I wanted to take a picture of them before church.  After many, many attempts this is the very best one we got- you win some, you lose some.

two- We've had a craaaaazy busy and fun week- friends over for dinner/pool party Monday, park day with friends Tuesday, more friends over for dinner/pool party Tuesday night, Schaders came to spend the day with us Wednesday and we went to the park and had a bbq by the lake, then the girls and I went to Nana and Papa's to play with Kristen and Kirra yesterday.  Today we are exhausted and having a much needed jammie day at home (extra exciting for me because I got new jammies at Target yesterday.)

three- Kirra is my girls' only cousin (until November!) and we are so happy to have her (and her mom) in CA for a few weeks

four- Today is National Book Lovers Day and I will be spending as much of it as possible finishing my book (that is already past due!)

five- All summer we've been trying to convince Jilly she can swim by herself with her life jacket on.  It took her five-year-old friend Lily to finally get her  to do it.  Cue my obnoxious excited mom voice.

San Jose

Lisa invited Jilly and me to come visit and stay the night since her Bryan (we married boys with the same name to make life less complicated) was going to be out of town.  We never turn down offers from Lisa, and were glad we didn't because we had an excellent time.

playing in the mall play area
a little Jamba break
co-ed bath time (one day they'll hate us for this)
all clean and ready for bed
we went to a fun farm and playground in the morning
my brave girl feeding the goat

Oh, the food.  Lisa made me the most delicious tomato basil garlic pizza, breadsticks, and caesar salad for dinner then eggs, bacon, and scones for breakfast.  Oh yummmm.  Then before we left she made sure to provide a yummy bowl of homemade ice cream.  Seriously that girl is the best.
Thanks Lisa and Blake!!!

Will You Be Mine

This week Jilly and I were able to visit our favorite Schaders.  Rarely does one find a friend like Lisa.  We can (and do!) talk about everything.  She is one of those people that makes you feel perfectly comfortable, and she always lifts you up.

But, the visit wasn't just for me.  Jilly now has her very first Valentine.  Sweet Blake gave her this gift.

A rose, chocolates, an owl purse, a notepad, Hello Kitty candies, and pink socks- this boy really knows the way to a girl's heart

And, I suppose if she has to have a suitor Blake would definitely be my first choice.  Isn't he a cutie?

Birthdaypalooza Part 1

My husband is now 28.  28, like 2 years away from 30.  I know what you're thinking- I look way too young to have a 28 year old husband.  And, it's true, I do.  But, it is a fact and so we must move on.

For his birthday on Friday Bryan requested a quiet night at home.  We grilled pizza (um, why did I waste so many pizzas in the oven?!?!) and drank icy cold cream soda out of glass bottles.  In lieu of cake Bryan asked for "cookie sandwiches with chocolate cake mix cookies and vanilla ice cream in the middle and hot fudge drizzled on top."  His wish was my command.  And now I know that I didn't just marry him for his good looks, I also married him for his amazing dessert creations.

On Saturday our favorite Schaders came to visit.  We went to Squeeze Inn and each ate one of these beauties.
that, my friends, is what we call a "cheese skirt"

We had planned on hanging out downtown Sacramento but thanks to the rain and the pounds of delicious melted cheese we consumed we opted to just sit at home and gush over these two cuties

Then, to top off a great weekend Jilly wore this to church today- too bad it doesn't come in my size too.

Don't worry- birthday celebrations are far from over around here.

a very Britney weekend

This weekend my old roommate Britney came to visit and we had such a great time together.

Jillian loved playing with her new friend.

We spent a day with lovely Lisa.  Brit got to meet Baby Blake and Lisa fed us an amazing barbecue.  We were all missing our fourth roomy Judi!

Jilly got to see and attack her boyfriend Blake

The Bryans were there too- but they left on a 31 mile bike ride so we could have some good girly time.  (ps- like Bryan's new look?  It lasted for a week but he got sick of it and shaved yesterday)

We walked around the beautiful Sacramento Temple

There are hardly any pictures of just Jilly and me so Britney was kind enough to take one, but Jillian was too distracted by the pretty flowers to look at the camera.  Oh well.

We also:
played Farkle (my new obsession, and Britney's too after she beat us every single game)
watched movies
shared a Black and Tan from Leatherby's
had a picnic
went running and on a walk
made cookies
braided hair
talked and talked and talked (my jaw was sore from talking so much!)

Baby Blake

Lisa is one of my very most favorite people.  We lived 4 rooms down from each other in the fabulous S Hall of DT our freshman year and then we were roommates every year after that.  We got married 2 months and 2 days apart and even though we didn't live together anymore, we did live on the same block for 2 years.  Then Lisa moved to northern CA and I followed a year later.  I had a baby in November and Lisa had a baby 4 months and 4 days later (on St. Patty's Day!)  Basically, we're meant to be BFFs and we couldn't be happier.

Yesterday Jilly and I got to meet sweet little baby Blake Henry and it was love at first sight.

The beautiful Momma and her babe.  Lisa looks incredible, you would never ever know she had a baby!

We've been told that arranged marriages are frowned upon so we'll just strongly recommend it.  Hopefully Jilly won't be 4 times his size forever though!

The Great Baby Swap
It was so fun to hold a newborn again, I can't believe how big Jillian has gotten!

Jilly LOVED her new best friend.  We didn't realize she had her hand on his shoulder until after the picture was taken, so sweet!
